Welcome to my website. One of the hardest things about creating a site is capturing what it says about you. So I went back and forth about what I wanted you to know about me. I am a journalist...that's true but it is a title that doesn't really fit me to the fullest.
I am a book author. I have birthed two books that mean a lot to me. Still With Me... A Daughter's Journey of Love and Loss is a deeply personal journey with my mother in the last year of her life. But it's also about the relationships between mothers and daughters and the ties that bind.
And then there is the Black Woman's Guide to Black Men's Health, a love story of sorts, and a campaign. It was born out of the realization that we are our brother's keepers... and our fathers, and our husbands and our friends. So, yes, I am a journalist and an author.
Still those shoes feel a bit too tight if I am going to tell you who I am in this new age of all the places and spaces where information is shared. My work has evolved, no longer limited to the printed page. You can find me online, on my own blog and on other sites, still in national magazines and newspapers, branching out into video, and in multimedia projects. Whether it's health, food, relationships, policy, I get to dig in deep and find innovative ways to let you peer into the world in a new way.
I am one of those little girls who says, "I want to be a writer, a chef, Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman, an international traveler and an astronaut." And I have gotten to do a little of all that. And did I mention that I am a bit of a road warrior. I am in demand as a speaker and clocked in 30 major speaking gigs this year?
So if you add all that up I guess the real shoes that fit me best are the ruby slippers of a storyteller. Yeah, I like that!
I hope you will take time to explore my site and my work, Make sure you visit my blogs, follow me on Twitter @andreacollier, and like me on Facebook--that's where the action is.
